About Kath

"there is now a light at the end of the tunnel. My quality of life is improving and the future
looks brighter - A big thank you to Kath!" - Ian Mitchell

Kath Nisbet.

In the early 90s I  trained in dance, movement, physical theatre and circus. During this time I injured my back and through my search to heal myself I found Pilates. After 3 months of 3 weekly 1 to 1s I had ‘rebuilt’ not only my back but had a whole new toned figure and incredible posture. In fact every area of my life improved. Functionally my  body worked so much better, I moved better, I was stronger and more flexible than ever, I breathed better was calmer and more confident. This was the ripple effect in practice.

I also studied the Alexander Technique and this technique continues to influence my work and personal practice.

I have trained at the Pilates-Institute international centre of excellence and qualified in 2005.

The Pilates-Institute is one of the leading Pilates teacher trainers and trains teachers worldwide. The Pilates-Institute remains up-to-date with the latest reasearch into prevention of low back pain, postural assessment and pelvic stability. As a result the Pilates-Institute has modified the original 34 exercises to be as safe and effective as possible.

I trained on the reformer with Stott pilates in Canada, and now have a small studio where I teach 1 to 1 personal programming/training rehad and recovery from injuries.

I have also trained with Lolita San Miguel (1st generation certified by Joe Pilates himself) Julian Littlefield (2nd generation) and pre and post natal with Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Institute. I regularly attend workshops to continue my professional development and increase my knowledge of new research and current working practices. I am certified and fully insured to teach groups and 1-to-1: Matwork: beginner level to advanced Stability ball and small equipment Reformer (large equipment what pilates was first designed to be done on) Pre and post-natal. I also am a trained in Champissage (Indian Head massage) and am continuing my training in The Hendrickson Method - Orthopedic Massage and musculosketal treatments. This treatment goes hand in hand with Pilates to offer a full rounded treatment and aids quicker recovery from injuries correcting imbalances in the body and vastly improves movement patterns.

A 1-to-1 session is a great way to learn pilates specific to your own needs. You can learn and progress much quicker than in a group environment. Any specific conditions can be worked on to bring pain relief and better movement patterns which in turn will greatly reduce the wear and tear on our joints enabling less incidences of injury, aches and pains from misuse. This includes a postural assessment and a short and long term plan to focus on imbalances, recovery from injury or focused training on particular areas of the body. I can also teach small groups in someone’s home, which is more private and offers a more focused level of teaching and correction. I am qualified in first aid.
